Read More	ROCKVILLE, Md. -- Reny Rosario Giguere, 86, formerly of Winslow, died Saturday morning, Jan. 21, 2006, at the National Lutheran Home in Rockville, Md., where he had been a resident for the past three years. He was born July 31, 1919, in Winslow, Maine, eldest son of Joachim J. and Olivine M. (Tardif) Giguere. He attended Sand Hill Elementary School in Winslow, then Winslow High School through his sophomore year, playing on their football and track teams. Although he liked school and was eager to complete his studies and graduate and go on to study medicine, his father persuaded him to quit in order to help support their family through difficult financial times during the Depression. He originally was employed by N. Mayo General Contractor of Waterville, Maine, then joined his father in a construction business named Giguere and Son, eventually taking over the business under Reny R. Giguere Contractor, when his father retired. Reny and his crew built many houses and cottages in the area; he finally retired at age 74. He served in the armed forces during World War II and was promoted to sergeant in charge of a gun crew of 14 men operating two half-tracks in the 459th Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion. He received several ribbons and medals, including the Good Conduct and Bronze Star medals for battles or campaigns fought in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and central Europe, including the Battle of the Bulge. He was honorably discharged on Oct. 9, 1945. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Elks Club. He served on the Winslow Planning Board for several years. His hobbies were fishing, hunting and bowling. He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Louise Marie (Fournier), in 2002; his parents; his brother, Henry, of California; and one half-sister, Yvette Bilodeau, of Winslow. Survivors include his daughters, Elaine Dolores Hadidiacos, of Rockville, and Lisa Marie Ingraham of Silver Spring, Md.; two grandchildren, Michelle Belski and Michael Hadidiacos, and one great-grandchild, Jordan Belski, all from Maryland; four sisters, Lorraine Breton, Georgette Dutil and Priscilla Roy of Winslow, and Jacqueline Carter of Waterville; and several nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces. There will be a private service for the immediate family on Feb. 3, 2006, in the chapel at the National Lutheran Home in Maryland. Reny's and Louise's cremains will be brought back to Maine in July 2006, for a Catholic service at St. John the Baptist Church in Winslow, followed by a military burial at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta, exact time and date to be determined at a later date.
