When he was 20, Reuben bought a Hamilton watch, which is still in the family. In 1885, Reuben and Belle lived in the southeast corner of Section 2, Pilot Grove Township. In 1893, they lived at the north edge of Pilot Grove Township, just east of the Lowman church. Artlip was helping load a stalk cutter into the wagon at Sam Jones' sale Tuesday the knives turned, striking Mr. Artlip across the face and cutting a severe, though not dangerous, gash. He was brought to town where a physician sewed up the wound.  4 Apr, 1907; Graphic: W. L. Langley has just completed remodeling Rhuben Artlip's house north of town. Mr. Artlip now has a very neat two-story residence.  5 Dee, 1907; Graphic. ... Artlip departed Wednesday morning for Waterloo to buy fixtures for his new meat market which he will open up in this city March first in the Charles Knapp building. The building is now being repapered and painted preparatory to his moving in. Mr. Artlip is an old resident of this county, and is well and favorably known by a majority of the people within trading distance of Elliott and no doubt he will receive his share of the business in his line. 11 Mar, 1909; Graphic: ... the new butcher shop ... Mr. Artlip made a mistake, and when the new cooler for the shop arrived, it was a foot or more too high for the room, and a hole had to be cut in the floor to let it down. -- Ad for Palace Meat Market  25 Mar, 1909; Graphic: R. B. Artlip is building a new slaughter house and yard on the Ling property west of town, where he now lives. The slaughter house will be to the far southwest corner of the place, which comprises 13 acres.  8 Apr, 1909; Graphic: R. B. Artlip and wife went to Omaha Tuesday to consult a specialist in regard to Mrs. Artlip's health. Upon her arrival there it was discovered that an operation would be necessary at once. Dr. L. A. Baldwin of this place, and the lady's sister, Mrs. J. F. Roberts were called. In 1920, Reuben and Delbert each drove a truck to Burlington, Colorado, and hauled grain during the harvest season. The next year Reuben sold his farm and moved to Bethune, Colorado. He trucked during the harvest and did carpenter work at other times.
