Description	:	One of the earliest settlers of Cedar County, arriving in 1836. He married Catharine Kiser in 1839, who arrived with her mother and brothers in 1837. He acquired land in Section 7, Township 80N, Range 3W, and Section 31, Township 81N, Range 7W. Both are in what is now called Cass Township. I believe the family lived on the Section 7 tract, until 1844, then moved to an enlarged Section 31 tract, where he lived until his death. Obituary: LONG.-At the home of his son Mr. Frank Long, of Cass twp., Cedar County, Dec. 6th, 1890. Mr. Reuben Long, aged 78 years, 7 months and one day. Mr. Long was born in Butler Co., Ohio, in 1812, and came to Iowa in 1836, and has therefore been a resident of.Cedar Co. 54 years. He was married in 1839 to Miss Catherine Kizer, who died only a few years ago. Seven children were born to them, of whom three sons and one daughter are yet living. What wonderful changes have been wrought in the halt century, since this worthy man and his wife, first settled on the farm they occupied. Through all these changing scenes, Mr. Long pursued the even tenor of his way, satisfied with his home; and while others grasped for wealth, and worked for fame and renown, he was content with his possessions, which afforded support for himself and family, besides enabling him to enjoy the privilege of lending a helping hand to the needy and distressed. It is gratifying to know that during his illness which lasted for several months, and at times caused him great suffering, he maintained a cheerful and uncomplaining spirit, retaining the right use of his mental faculties to the very last. Appreciating the filial care of his children, and especially the tender ministrations of his son and daughter-in-law with whom he passed his last days, as well as the kind attention of friends and neighbors were freely manifested, he passed to his eternal home. Funeral services were held from the Dunkard church, Monday, Dec. 8th, Rev. J. K. Bloom of Lisbon, Ia., officiating. A large number of his friends and neighbors were present to pay their last sad tribute to the departed.
