Friends also may call from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. Saturday at the church. He was born on Dec. 8, 1932, in Independence, Iowa, son of Arthur and Elsie Manson. He married Evelyn J. Reisner on July 19, 1958, at Zion Lutheran Church, Oelwein; she preceded him in death in 2007. He received his master of divinity degree from Wartburg Seminary in Dubuque, in 1958, and went on to receive a second master's degree from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis in 1969. He served as pastor of Alvord Lutheran Church, Alvord, Iowa, from 1958 to 1963, Ossian and Stavanger Lutheran Churches, Ossian, Iowa, from 1964 to 1979, and served as the first chaplain and development director for Luther Manor Nursing Home, Dubuque, from 1981 to 1998. Since retiring from full-time ministry he served as an interim and supply pastor, published the Large Print Book of Worship for the nursing home setting and served as a cruise chaplain with Norwegian Cruise Line. He was involved in many community organizations and was past chairman of the Dubuque Rescue Mission, vice chairman of the Dubuque Food Pantry and a founding member of the Dubuque Tri-State Gift Planning Council, having led many local charitable fund raising campaigns for various organizations over the years. He had been a survivor of pancreatic cancer. Surviving to honor his memory are a son, Eric Manson, of Dubuque; a daughter, Stephanie (Jeff) Allaire, of Appleton, Wis.; two grandchildren, Michael and Matthew Allaire; a brother, George A. (Claudia) Manson, of Marion, Iowa; and six nieces and nephews. He also was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur F. Manson, in 1958, and Elsie A.W. (Otdoerfer) Manson, in 2002; his father-in-law, John F. Reisner, in 1981; and his mother-in-law, Esther D. Reisner, in 2007.
