Read More	Hartford Courant, The (CT) - April 1, 2001 KEEDY, Reverend Allen The Reverend Allen Keedy , 94, of Avery Heights, Hartford, formerly of West Hartford, passed away Thursday, (March 29, 2001). Born in 1907, he spent his boyhood in North Andover, MA, the first son of the Reverend John J. Keedy and Emily Allen Keedy . He prepared for college at Phillips Academy at Andover and, during his first year, commuted to the Academy on his bicycle. Entering Amherst College in 1925, he joined the Theta Delta Chi fraternity. He and his classmate, ``Bill'' Wilson, established the Student Liberal Forum for the discussion of current social problems. For the 1928 presidential election, Mr. Keedy garnered some student support for the candidacy of Norman Thomas of the Socialist Party. He also was active in the Clerical Club, established by Professor of Biblical Studies, Rev. J. Gordon Gilkey. In 1929, he entered Union Theological Seminary, New York City, NY, and majored in Christian Ethics under the mentorship of Reinhold Niebuhr. His first pastorate was at the First Congregational Church of New Bedford. There he met Ada Sargeant Jackson, whom he married in 1938. Together they held pastorates in Shenandoah, IA, Chicago, IL, and Norwood and Weymouth, MA, during which time their children arrived: Martha (1941), John (1944), and Dan (1951). During his semi-retirement, which began in 1972, he spent the next 15 years with ministries in the West Indies. Following a heart attack in 1989, Allen and Ada retired to his ancestral village of Walpole, MA. Then in 1991, they lived in Hartmeadow, a retirement community sponsored by the Flagg Road United Church of Christ in West Hartford. He is survived by his wife and their three children, Martha K. Hoffman of West Hartford, John L. Keedy of Louisville, KY, and Allen Daniel Keedy , of Waynesville, NC, as well as by three grandchildren, Andrew B. Hoffman of Washington, DC, Katherine E. Hoffman of Boston, MA, and Emily R. Keedy of Louisville, KY. The funeral will be at the Flagg Road United Church of Christ on Monday, April 2 at 2 p.m. Burial will be private. The family requests that contributions to UNICEF be made in lieu of flowers. Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, West Hartford has care of arrangements.
