Born September 29, 1917, in Franklin, Ohio, to Walter and Millie Ballenger Cheek, he lived most of his life in Richmond, Indiana. Calvin was a 1935graduate of Harrison High School in Kitchel, Indiana, 1959 graduate of Bethany Bible School, 1969 graduate of McPhearson College in McPhearson, Kansas, and attended Bethany Theological Seminary in Chicago, Illinois in 1970. Born September 29, 1917, in Franklin, Ohio, to Walter and Millie Ballenger Cheek, he lived most of his life in Richmond, Indiana. Calvin was a 1935graduate of Harrison High School in Kitchel, Indiana, 1959 graduate of Bethany Bible School, 1969 graduate of McPhearson College in McPhearson, Kansas, and attended Bethany Theological Seminary in Chicago, Illinois in 1970. He was a retired minister having served churches in Illinois, Kansas, Colorado, Ohio, and Indiana, including Castine, Ohio, and the Richmond Church of the Brethren. Calvin was a published poet. Survivors include his daughters, Carol (Donald) Nutter of Greenville, Ohio, Betty (Lowell) Schleinitz of Pleasant Hill, Ohio, and Barbara Mummert of Pleasant Hill, Ohio; sons, David (Patricia) Cheek of Ponca City, Oklahoma, and Rev. Malcolm (Barbara) Cheek of Madisonville, Kentucky; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda M. Brower Cheek; father, Walter Cheek; mother and step-father, Millie and Grant McCorkle; sisters, Mildred and Helen Cheek; brothers, Earl, Harry, and Robert Cheek; and four great-grandchildren. Visitation for Rev. Calvin E. Cheek will be from 4 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, May 19, 2013, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 20, 2013, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Rev. Malcolm Cheek and Rev. Gary Cloyd officiating. Burial will be in College Corner Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to: State of the Heart Hospice, 1350 North Broadway Street, Greenville, OH 45331.
