Williams was born July 8, 1905 in Dundy County, Nebraska and departed this life August 20, 1973, in Denver, Colorado at the Craig Rehabilitation Hospital at the age of 68 years, one month and 12 days. On August 6th, Cecil suffered a severe spinal injury from an accident on a tractor-mower which he was riding while mowing the church and parsonage grounds. He was rushed immediately by ambulance to Eads, Colorado for x-rays and then on to St. Mary-Corwin Hospital in Pueblo, Colorado where surgery was performed by the best neurosurgeon available. From the very first, the doctors gave the family very little encouragement for his complete recovery, but had advised therapy at the Craig Rehabilitation Hospital where he was transferred August 15th. On the eve of August 20th, he suffered a fatal heart attack about 9:00 p.m. and God saw fit to take him home. Cecil was the oldest son of Rollie and Ella Williams of the Pleasant Valley Community. He spent the first 30 years of his life in and near this area, attending the local school and church and labored in farming and ranching activities. On August 3, 1927 at Wray, Colorado he was united in marriage to Doris Mathews of Benkelman, Nebraska. To this happy union three children were born, Bonnie, Nancy and Duane. In 1936, Cecil dedicated his life to the Lord and immediately began a part-time ministry at the Riverside Friends Church in Kansas. In 1938, they moved to Northeastern Nebraska to pastor Elk Valley Friends Church near Waterbury, Nebraska. Other pastorates were Enosdale Friends Church in Kansas and Red Mound Friends Church near Lewis, Kansas. In 1944, they moved to Haviland, Kansas where Cecil attended Friends Bible College and the children attended High School. From 1948 to 1953, they were residents of Benkelman and Cecil was employed with county road work when he wasn't engaged in Evangelistic work. In 1953, they accepted a full-time pastorate at Chivington, Colorado, serving there for a total of five years. They made their home in Kiowa County, Colorado, until 1963 and during this time, he and Doris spent their winter months in Evangelistic meetings in both Kansas and Rocky Mountain Yearly meetings. During his spare time he was again employed by Kiowa County operating county road equipment, a task he loved so well. They then moved to Max, Nebraska and he was employed by Dundy County when he was not occupied by church work. In 1965, they accepted a pastorate near Alton, Kansas at Mount Ayr Friends Church where they served for seven years. In June of 1972, they were again called back to pastor the Chivington Church where they were serving at the time of the accident. Cecil was a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather, a good helpful neighbor and his friends were numbered by his acquaintances. He had a very outgoing personality and carried the concerns of many people. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy, April 1949, his father in November of 1952 and one granddaughter, Linda Brozek, in October, 1971. He leaves to mourn his sudden departure, his loving and faithful wife, Doris; daughter, Bonnie Brozek and husband, Emanuel; son, Duane and wife Betty all of Canon City, Colorado; his mother, Ella Williams of the Hester Memorial Home, Benkelman, Nebr.; two brothers, Glen and wife Edna of Benkelman, Orval and wife Gretchen of Bakersfield, Calif.; three sisters, Inez Mathews and Irene Gooder of Benkelman and Jody Damrow of Grand Island, Nebr.; 13 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two uncles, Lloyd Little of Benkelman, Lee Little of St. Francis, Kansas and an aunt, Nellie Rose of York, Nebraska, many nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted at the United Methodist Church in Benkelman on Friday afternoon with the Rev. Bob Sander officiating. Betty Erdman was the organist and Elaine and Marvin Asfahl the singers. Casket bearers were Johnny Mays, Bill Osborn, Lyle Hansen, Gene Miller, Eldon Hendrickson and Gene Hanson. Interment was in the Benkelman Cemetery. The Jones Funeral Home had charge of the services.
