Christopher Mardorf, 83, who died at his home in Monticello, Sunday night after an extended illness. The services will be in charge of the Rev. Henry L. Adix of the church. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery. Rev. Mardorf was born in Melsungen, Hessen, Germany, April 16, 1851. He was the son of William and Christina Matthai Mardorf. He attended public, high and normal schools in Germany. He also spent four years in a Mission House. He came to America in 1873. He entered Wartburg seminary, then located at St. Sebald near Strawberry Point. He completed the course in one year, and was ordained as a minister of the Lutheran church, August 9, 1874. His first pastorate was at Solon with a congregation at Cedar Rapids. In 1875 he moved to Waterloo, where he remained until 1878. In 1878, Rev. Mardorf came to this county to the Zion Lutheran Church of Wayne Township. He was also the organizer of the Lutheran congregation in Castle Grove Township in 1879 where he preached until 1892. He resigned from the Zion Lutheran church August 25, 1918, and he was followed by the Rev. John Willms. He and the Wayne congregation observed his fiftieth anniversary of ordination as a minister, August 12, 1924. He was married to Miss Celena Hertz, Oct. 11, 1875, who preceded him in death. To this union were born nine children, three of whom preceded him in death. The surviving are George Mardorf of Wayne twp., the Rev. Carl Mardorf of Sumner, Mrs. Hugo Lutz of West Union. Miss Anna Mardorf of Monticello, Mrs. Herman Rickels of Monticello and Mrs. Henry Rickels of Anamosa
