Friedrick Schug died at San Antonia, Texas, March 27, 1913, and his funeral was held from the Lutheran church in Carroll, Tuesday afternoon, at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. L. Eschbach of Glidden. The following sketch of the life of the departed minister has been kindly furished the Times for publication: Friedrick Schug was born June 20, 1842, in Bischelm, Germany. There he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. After studying theology he entered the ministry. In 1867 he left his native land and came to the United States, where he took charge of a congregation in Wisconsin. The following year Miss Philippine Voeifal, to whom deceased had been betrothed, came to New York, where she was married to the then Pastor F. Schug, who met her there. They soon left for Wisconsin. About 1870 they came to Grant City, Sac county, Iowa. There and in the surrounding counties Pastor Schug endured the hardships of a pioneer missionary, gathering and building up struggling parishes. After 15 years residence in Sac county they moved to Ida county but soon returned to Sac county where they remained until they came to Lidderdale, Carroll county, where deceased acquired the bank about seven years ago. About four years ago his loving and faithful wife preceded him to her heavenly home. Since then he has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Martha Hartwig, who did all that a daughter's love could suggest to make his last years comfortable and pleasant. For some years deceased had been ailing. Last winter he had sought and found relief in Texas, when this winter his old ailment again made its appearance and again he went to Texas where he hoped to find relief, but the Lord had willed otherwise. In a hospital in San Antonia, Texas, he was called from this world of sorrows to his reward on the 27th of March, 1913, aged 70 years, 9 months and 7 days. As pastor he was the means of leading many sinners to everlasting bliss, and has, as we sincerely hope, made use of that faith which he once preached and entered the heavenly mansions. There survive the departed the following children: Mrs. Lousia Mohr and F. F. Schug of Auburn, Iowa; Otto Schug. of Ida Grove; Mrs. Martha Hartwig of Carroll. Two children preceded him to their Master. There also survive twenty grandchildren.
