Harry W. Cope posted in the Pawnee Republican Newspaper. Died at his home in Trumbull, Nebr., Friday, August 24, 1934, aged 68 years, 4 months and 10 days. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Trumbull Saturday, conducted by the pastor, Rev. C. H. Lind, who was assisted by Dr. B. Johnson, district superintendent, Dr. J. W. Embree of Wood River, and other ministers. The body was brought to Pawnee City and short services were held at the cemetery here Sunday afternoon. . . . . Harry Wesley Cope was born in Wisconsin on April 14, 1866 . . . . During the ministry of Mr. Cope he served the following charge: Fairbury circuit 1892, Holmesville 1894, DuBois 1895, Palmyra and Unadilla 1898, Unadilla 1900, Adams 1903, Weeping Water 1907, City Mission Lincoln 1909, Edgar and Angus 1910, Trumbull 1911, Polk 1917, Red Cloud 1919, Clay Center 1923. He retired from the active ministry in 1926 and the family moved to Trumbull, where they have since resided. . . . Mr. Cope leaves to mourn his departure his wife, Mrs. Nella Cope; a daughter, Norma Grace; one stepson, Doyle Hart of Hastings; two sisters, Mrs. Ida Hillis of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. Earl Johnson of Long Beach, Calif.; and three brothers, A. J. Cope of Pawnee City, H. E. Cope of Summerfield, and A. B. Cope of Geneva. . . . .] The following is Cope family information from Harrison B. Talbert's diary. Cope and wife Carrie E. Cope visit Harrison and Matilda Talbert one mile west of Trumbull.] 1912 May 26 - Sunday Memorial Service at Christian Church, Sermon Bro. Cope. [The Methodist Church and Christian Church were across the street from each other. For Memorial Sunday the Methodist minister would preach at the Christian Church and the next year the Christian minister would preach at the Methodist Church.] 1912 August 22 - P.M. Bro Cope & I visit Mrs Kruff . 1912 September 24 - Bro Copes [H. W. & Carrie] & us [Harrison & Matilda Talbert], Visit Mr Huffman. 1912 October 8 - Help [Pastor] Cope haul manure. [Probably horse manure.] 1913 January 28 - Beautiful day 11 A.M. Mr [Leonard] Ormsbys [banker] funeral. Large turnout. Bro Cope preaches funeral St John 14 - 1&2 1913 April 16 - Attend home missionary meeting Nellie H[art]. 1913 June 22 - Sunday Bro Cope & wife gone. 1913 July 10 - Canvass with Cope against P.[ool] Hall. 1913 September 28 - Sunday New Minister Bro Cope. After church Visit Pearsons. After midnight Hubert Wheelers house burnt down. [The new minister is the same Bro. Cope apparently with a new annual contract. A year later in September 1914 H.B.T. again refers to the new minister Cope. Minister Cope started in September 1911 and left Trumbull in September 1917.] 1914 January 30 - Haul Oat Straw to Bro. Cope & put fodder in Barn. [Bro. Cope was probably still using a horse and buggy.] 1914 May 24 - [Memorial] Sunday big crowd & good Sermon Bro. Cope. 1914 July 19 - Sunday Cope swaps Pulpits with Doniphans [Methodist] Minister. 1914 September 27 - Sunday Hear new minis. Bro. Cope. 1914 October 7 - Reception & Presentation of Rocking Chair & Library Table to Mr & Mrs Cope. Good time. 1914 December 4 - A.M. help Bro. Cope. P.M. help raise big gates at [Greenwood] cemetery. 1915 May 30 - Sunday Cloudy & in morn mists a little. 11 A.M. Memorial Service by Christian Minister at our Church, real good. 2 P.M. funeral of Jennie [Hagerman] by Bro. Cope at our church. An awful large funeral notwithstanding a bad day. 1915 July 14 - Bro Cope & wife comes home. She is sick. 1915 August 5 - Commence threshing, too wet. Mrs Cope real bad. 1915 October 31 - Sunday Bro. _____ of Giltner Preaches. S. S. Rally day. Sister Cope still very low. [Minister Copes wife, Carrie Cope.] [1915 November 1 - Carrie Cope died] 1915 November 2 - Mrs Cope passes away about midnight last night. 1915 November 3 - Mrs Copes funeral, large turnout. Bro Marsh preaches funeral. 5 or 6 Preachers present. 1915 November 4 - Take Mrs Cope for burial to Pawne(e) City. [See Carrie Smith Cope at findagrave # 57738896 for her complete obituary. . . . . Born in Ohio October 22, 1868 . . . . December 21, 1892 married Rev. H. W. Cope at her home in Burchard. . . . . . She died at her home in Trumbull at the age of 47 years and 10 days. [Harrisonâ€™s daughter Myrtle Talbert Smith attended the dinner and daughter Cora wrote in the diary entry.] 1916 January 26 - Mr Cope helps us all day. Papa resting fine. 1916 February 16 - Miss Cope visit us. 68 A[bove]. [Nurse Cope probably went home and is now called Miss Cope.] 1916 June 26 - Cope begins to preach, but storm breaks up meeting. 1916 July 9 - Sunday Clear & hot. 2 P.M. [Frank Munn Civil War veteran] funeral by Cope at M.E. Church. 1916 September 23 - Beautiful day. Our 50 th Wedding Anniversary and celebrated by our own children & grandchildren, 12 in number, received Some magnificent presents. From children $30.00 in gold, Stones, Childs, Miss Cope, Perry girls, Mr Cope & others. 1916 October 18 - Entertain at supper Bro. Cope, Deflone, & Lyttle. Nellie & Doyle [Hart], Miss Davis, Miss Northup, Miss Dreitzler. Had a jolly good time. [Nellie Hart & son Doyle. Eight months later on June 20, 1917 Nellie married Bro. Cope.] 1917 March 1 - P.M. Bro Cope take us in car. [1917 June 20 - Rev. Cope marries Nella/Nellie Rader Hart Cope] 1917 September 9 - Sunday Go to S.S. & Church twice. I expect I hear Cope Preach last time. [Shortly Pastor Cope moves to the rather new town of Polk, Nebraska.] 1917 September 10 - Go to Hast. & back on Noon Train. Bro Cope & wife leaving for Con.[convention]. 1917 September 21 - Help Bro Cope crate some of his furn[iture], Buy brace & bits $2.50. [Seven days later] 1917 September 28 - Go with Doc [son Elias Talbert who lived at Central City, Nebraska] to Polk, Hord Etc. Visit Bro Cope & family [at Polk], so busy only stay little bit. 1918 March 15 - Go with Doc to Polk. Go to Copes. He is not at home. 1918 April 12 - P.M. We all go with Doc to Polk. Cope ready to leave.
