McNair was laid to rest in the Fielder cemetery, southwest of Ottumwa, Sunday, January 30, 1916. Relatives and friends gathered to offer a last tribute of love and respect to the memory of the departed whose long and useful life, humble and unassuming, gentle and self sacrificing endeared him to all. Mr. McNair was born in Knox county, O., November 24, 1836, son of Abram and Almira McNair. His parents moved to Wapello county, when he was eight years old, settling in Kirkville. On January 27, 1856, he was united in marriage to Lydia Ann Ward, daughter of Laurence and Harriett Ward. To this union wee born five children, four daughters and one son who died in early manhood. Mr. McNair lived in the vicinity of Kirkville for some time engaged in the occupation of mining. In 1871 he was ordained minister in the United Brethren church, and since then he has preached the gospel of Jesus Christ throughout many counties in southern Iowa. Six years ago on account of his failing health he made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Ellsworth Johnston of Keokuk township, where on Saturday, January 29, he passed to the world beyond. The funeral services were held Sunday, the Methodist minister of Eldon officiating. The pallbearers were six of his grandsons, Fred, Jesse, Ray, Roy, Ernest Rupe and Elmer Humphrey. Mr. McNair is survived by his wife and one sister, Mrs. Henry Black of Kansas, and four daughters, Mrs. G. W. Humphrey of Davis county; Mrs. I. B. Feidler (sic) of Ottumwa; Mrs. Ellsworth Johnston and Mrs. Addison Rupe of Wapello county (Contributed). Transcribed as published by Karen Brewer
