Born in Gaffney, he was the husband of Shirley Stepp Kanipe and son of Robert Jerry Kanipe and Ola Mae Huckabee Kanipe. He served as the Pastor of Cornerstone Church in Gaffney. Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Jerry Bruce Kanipe, Jr. (Heather) of Boiling Springs, S.C. and John David Kanipe (Tina) of Spratanburg; two daughters, Phyllis Spivey (Butch McKeehan) of Spartanburg and Angelia Byars (Gregg) of Cowpens, S.C.; two stepsons, Scott White (Paula) and Terry White (Jamie), both of Gaffney; two sisters, Yvonne Greene and Betty Biggerstaff; four brothers, Kenneth Kanipe (Becky), Roger Kanipe (Mildred), Donnie Kanipe (Anh) and Randy Kanipe (Wanda); a sister-in-law, Betty Kanipe; twelve grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; thirteen step-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Patricia "Pat" Gilbert, a brother, Homer Kanipe, a brother-in-law, Sonny Greene and two stepchildren, Rhonda Guyton and Jamie White. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 15 2022 at Oakland Cemetery with Mr. Ashby Blakely officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Cornerstone Church, 975 River Drive, Gaffney, S.C. 29340.
