Father Diener, a native of Brookville, studied at St. Meinrad Seminary, and at St. Gregory at Mt. St. Mary's Seminaries, Cincinnati. He was ordained to the priesthood on May 26, 1988 by then Archbishop John T. McNicholas. Read More	Reverend John Edward Diener "Rev. John E. Diener Reverend John Edward Diener, age 82, died at St. Clare Center, Cincinnati, Ohio on Sunday, January 15, after a long illness. Father Diener, a native of Brookville, studied at St. Meinrad Seminary, and at St. Gregory at Mt. St. Mary's Seminaries, Cincinnati. He was ordained to the priesthood on May 26, 1988 by then Archbishop John T. McNicholas. His first appointments from June, 1938 until the first of 1944, were as associate pastor at three Cincinnati parishes (St. Augustine, Holy Angels and St. Edward). Father Diener served as a U.S. Army chaplain from February, 1944 to June, 1946, when he was assigned as associate pastor at St. Christina Parish, Lincoln Heights. In January, 1951, he resumed his duty as chaplain with the U.S. Army. From December, 1968, until June, 1969, he served temporarily as associate pastor at St. Henry parish in Dayton, Ohio and then at St. Gabriel parish in Glendale. In June, 1969, he was appointed chaplain at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital, Cincinnati, Ohio, and to the same position at St. George Hospital, Cincinnati, in June, 1975. Father Diener became associate pastor at St. John the Evangelist parish in Deer Park, Ohio in March, 1978. He was named spiritual director of the Eastern Cincinnati Curia of the Legion of Mary in February, 1980. After his retirement in 1983, he lived and assisted at St. Saviour parish, Rossmoyne. Reception of the body will be celebrated on Thursday, January 19, at 4 p.m., at St. Saviour Church, Rossmoyne. Visitation will continue until 8 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 20, at 11 a.m., at St. Saviour Church, Rossmoyne. Burial will follow in St. Michael Parish Cemetery, Brookville." "Father John E. Diener, Chaplain, ARTC, Fort Knox, Kentucky ... received his Oak Leaf Cluster Saturday, April 16th, 1955 ... he had held the rank of captain for five years." (Brookville Democrate 4-28-1955.) Prior to his ordination, Father Diener had studied at St. Meinrad Seminary, St. Gregory Seminary and Mt. St. Mary Seminary. He served as associate pastor at several locations within the Archdiocese until 1944 when he became a U.S. Army chaplain. He served his chaplaincy with but a single five year hiatus (1945-51) until 1969 when he was discharged with the rank of lieutenant colonel. Father remained active as an associate priest and as a spiritual director for many years until the ravages of serious illness required his retirement. This man of God expired from his affliction on January 15, 1995 and lies buried in St. Michael cemetery."
