Description	:	JOHN FERREE was born to Philip and Sarah (Evans) Ferree on May 27 1761 in Strasburg, Pennsylvania. He was a private in the American Revolution fighting under Captain John Slaymaker's Company 7th Battalion in the Lancaster County Pennsylvania Militia. He married Miss (Nancy) Rebecca Marsh on January 1 1792 in Augusta, Kentucky. Shortly after the marriage, he bought a farm near Augusta, Kentucky on which he lived until he moved to Clermont County, Ohio. John was the father of twelve children. Shortly after the marriage, he bought a farm near Augusta, Kentucky on which he lived until he moved to Clermont County, Ohio. John was the father of twelve children. John was a Methodist Circuit rider in Southwestern Ohio. His career started in Chillicothe, Ohio. He attended a seminary in Augusta before he and his family went to Ohio. He was one of the pioneer Methodists of Clermont County. The Methodist church of Boston (which is Owensville today) was started in John's house and preaching was held there until a church was built at Boston in 1831. In the fiftieth year of his age, the Reverend John Ferree became President Elder of the Methodist Church. He served two years. He was a man of tender heart and tearful eye. Having been a plaster before he became a minister, it is said that often when he became absorbed in his theme while preaching, he unconsciously took on the gestures of his former trade. His voice was noted for its musical qualities. One who heard him sing at a camp meeting, a short time before he died, said: "That man and his music would do for Heaven, and God will certainly take him soon to sing with the angels." John passed away August 17 1839 in Stonelick, OH. He is buried on private property across the road from Stonelick Cemetery, near a row of poplar trees.
