Description	:	The Rev. Joseph L. Hefner, 72, died the evening of Sept 9, 2004, at his residence. He was born March 30, 1932, in Lima to Charles and Martha Cretoria (Fetter) Hefner. On June 5, 1954, he married Janet Ford, who died Oct 29, 1995. The Rev. Hefner was a student pastor from 1957 to 1964 at Bucyrus East Charge. He was born March 30, 1932, in Lima to Charles and Martha Cretoria (Fetter) Hefner. On June 5, 1954, he married Janet Ford, who died Oct 29, 1995. The Rev. Hefner was a student pastor from 1957 to 1964 at Bucyrus East Charge. From 1964 to 1994, he pastored at churches in Liberty Center, Bowling Green, Blanchester, Maumee and Gallipolis. He was the minster at First United Methodist Church, Kenton, from 1994 to 1997. He had served in several positions for the church district and for Camp Sabroske, including summer camp counselor/dean, camping committee, trustee, cluster leader, pastoral care committee, higher education committee, board of education committee, board of ordained ministry, lay speaker training, field work education supervisor, conference usher for 12 years and eight years as chairman of the conference program committee. He had been an elementary school teacher, substitute teacher for elementary and high school and a coach. He served as director for the recreation department and served as coach, board member and officer of the Little League. He was a member of the Rotary Club and the Kiwanis Club, where he served as president and Key Club adviser. He was co-founder of Karma (The Link), a crisis intervention center at Bowling Green State University. He was a member of Northern Light Lodge Grotto and Scottish Rite Valley of Toledo. He was graduate of Shawnee High School, Summit Christian College, Heidelberg College and United Theological Seminary. He had acquired continuing education units from BGSU, the Medical College of Ohio, the United Theological Seminary, Elliot & Associates Family Counseling Center, Ohio Pastors School, Ohio Pastors Convocation, Pastors School at Asbury Seminary, the World Conference on Evangelism, Holzer Medical Center Seminars and other reading and personal studies. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting and fishing. Survivors include five sons, Mark (Bettie Sue) Hefner of Columbus, Gregory (Cyndi) Hefner of Blanchester, Chris Hefner of Wilmington, Del., Curt (Heidi) Hefner of Springfield and Joel (Tonya) Hefner of Perrysburg; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four sisters, Eulalie Delong, Barbara (Roy) Bowersock, Lois (Frank) Warren and Kathryn (Larry) Blunden, all of Lima; and his fiancée, Barbara Acheson of Lima. He was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Barnt. Services will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, Kenton. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima.
