Read More	Joseph is the son of John & Walburga Neppel. ******** Hawarden Independent; December 25, 1952 Former Priest Here Succumbs Rev. Fr. Joseph M. Neppel, chaplain at the Sacred Heart hospital in Le Mars, died Friday evening after an illness of two weeks. Rev. Fr. Neppel was a former pastor of St. Mary's church in Hawarden. He came to the Hawarden parish in February 1931 and in the fall of 1938 was transferred to the pastorate of St. Mary's at Alton. Rev. Neppel had been ill since last August when he resigned as pastor at Alton and became chaplain at the Sacred Heart hospital in Le Mars. He was born March 19, 1889 in Carroll county, Iowa. He received his education at Joseph pontifical college, Columbus, Ohio, and St. Mary's seminary at Baltimore, Md. He was ordained to the priesthood Juno 20, 1916. He served as assistant pastor at Breda, templeton and St. Joseph's church at Carroll before serving as pastor at Schaller, Pomeroy, Hawarden and Alton. Funeral services were held on Tuesday morning at St. Mary's Catholic church at Alton. Internment was at St. Mary's Cemetery.
