Description	:	Obituary of Loren Silsby. Loren Judson Silsby was born October 23, 1910, to Rueben and Ethel (Jones) Silsby on a farm near Burr Oak, In Jewell County, Kansas. He passed away April 20, 1988 at the Republic County Hospital, Belleville, Kansas at the age of 77 years. he attended the Hill Grade School Dist. No. 10 and the Burr Oak High School. Read More	Obituary of Loren Silsby. Loren Judson Silsby was born October 23, 1910, to Rueben and Ethel (Jones) Silsby on a farm near Burr Oak, In Jewell County, Kansas. He passed away April 20, 1988 at the Republic County Hospital, Belleville, Kansas at the age of 77 years. he attended the Hill Grade School Dist. No. 10 and the Burr Oak High School. Loren was united in marrige to Leta Thompson on August 19, 1931 at Smith Center, Kansas. Their 3 daughters are Marlyne, Jean, and Judy. He was engaged in farming in Jewell County. In 1945 he answered the call to the ministry. He received a quartlerly conference license in the U.B. Church and began serving the Lebanon-Independence Church. The family left the farm in 1946 and moved to Lebanon. During the next 8 years he also served Maple Grove North, Esbon and Burr Oak Churches. He also pursued his 2nd. love which was carpentry and painting during his years in Lebanon. In 1953 he was moved to Woodston, Kansas to serve the E.U.B. Church there. Here he began the study course through the Board of Christian Education of the Evangelical United Brethern Church, Dayton, Ohio. He finished this course while serving the Woodston Church and was ordained at the Kansas E.U.B. Conference in 1956. Then in 1961 they moved to Republic, Kansas where he served the Republic E.U.B. Church. In 1964 he also began to serve the Methodist Church at Webber, Kansas. During this time the E.U.B. Church and the Methodist Churches merged as the United Methodist Church so he then served 2 United Methodist Churches. In 1976 he retired and moved to Bellville, Kansas. Later that year he began serving the Talmo United Methodist Church. In 1977 he also started serving the Munden United Methodist Church. One of the highlights of Loren's life was he, leta and their children celebrated their 50th. wedding anniversary in 1981. In 1985 health problems forced him to fully retire. Loren was a member of the Kansas West Conference of the United Methodist Church;Kiwanis Club, of which he was a past president; The Supper Club and Bellville Ministerial Alliance. He was preceded in death by his parents; 4 sisters-Florence Alexander, Nina Beam, Juanita Pothoff and Opal Kindler and 2 brothers-Earl and Hubert. Left to treasure his memeory are his loving wife Leta of almost 57 years; their 3 daughters Marlyne Moore and Husband Al of Scottsdale, Arizona. Jean Atwill and husband Bill of Stockton, Kansas, Judy Korte and Husband Charles of Fredonia Kansas; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 2 sisters-Effie Mullett of Wichita, Kansas, and Ruby Huber of Hemet, California; 1 brother Harvey of Kearney, Nebraska, many neices and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held on Monday, April 25th., at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Esbon, Kansas. The Revs. James Graves, Jerry Milleson and Gerald Martin officiated. The casket bearers were Melvin Silsby, Merlin Alexander, Newell Alexander, Harold BeamJr., Donald Beam and Kenneth Thompson. Interment was at the Esbon Cemetery with Bachelor-Faulkner-Dart Funeral Home of Bellville in charge of the arrangements.
