Silsby was born February 17, 1912 to Winfield and Martha Rogers Thompson on a farm near Esbon,Kansas in Jewell County. She passed away on December 12, 1992 at the Republic County Hospital in Belleville,Kansas at the age of 80 years, 8 months and 25 days. She was raised on farms in the vicinity of Esbon and Dentonia where she attended country schools in Jewell County. Her family moved to town in 1929 where she worked in the family restaurant. she graduated from Esbon High School in May of 1931. She was united in marriage to Loren Silsby on August 19,1931 at Smith Center, and to this union was born three daughters; Marlyne, Jean, and Judy. They were engaged in farming until 1945 when Loren became a minister. In 1946 they moved to Lebanon where they served four different churches during the next eight years. In 1953 they moved to Woodston,Kansas where they served the E.U.B. Church. In 1961 they moved to Republic, to serve the E.U.B. Church and in 1964 began serving the Webber Methodist Church also. She enjoyed cooking in the Republic Cafe and she particularly enjoyed meeting and working with the public. IN 1976 they retired and moved to Belleville, where she resided for the next 16 years. Some of the highlights of her life were when she and Loren celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1981, their 55th in 1986 and her 80th birthday in 1992. During her entire life she was unselfishly devoted to her family as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was always a help to her parents in the farm home, the restraurant, and into their later years of declining health. She had a special place of love and respect in the hearts of her sister and brothers. She participated in their times of joy and was always there to help in sickness and in sorrow. She delighted in making things for her grandchildren, assisting them with their school work, entertaining and being entertained by them. Her caring and help went beyond family and community. Uncounted numbers will remember leta's thoughful acts-pies, and rolls brought to them, a telephone call, and an invitation to her home. Many will remember Leta and Loren taking them to a Doctor or to the hospital, comforting them in times of fear and loss. Their parts in the good times will not be forgotten when weddings, social gatherings and church events are recalled. She was a member of the Belleville United Methodist Church, the U.M.W. Circle and the Supper Club. She was preceded in death by her husband Loren; her parents, Winfield and Martha Thompson; four brothers, Harold, Leonard, Frank and LeRoy Thompson. Left to treasure her memory are her three daughters, Marlyne Moore and her husband Al, of Scottsdale, Arizona; Jean Atwill and her husband Bill, of Stockton; Judy Hanson and her husband Darrell of Hardy, Nebraska; twelve grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Elta Kennedy, Cheyenne, Wyoming; one brother, Claud Thompson, Guide Rock, Nebraska; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 16, 1992 at the First United Methodist Church, Belleville, conducted Rev. Roy Brotton. Interment was made in Esbon Cemetery. Memorials are to be made to The First United Methodist Church in Belleville. Bachelor-Faulkner Dart Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
