Description	:	Martin Frederick Gruneich 83, of Belle Vista, Ark. died Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at Beverly Health Care Center in Anderson, MO. A memorial service was held July 24, at the Presbyterian Church of Belle Vista with Pastor James Still and Pastor Tracy Evans officiating. Martin was born March 23, 1921 on the family farm 9 miles south east of Kulm, N.D. to Gottlieb & Mary (Schlenker) Gruneich. Read More	Martin Frederick Gruneich 83, of Belle Vista, Ark. died Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at Beverly Health Care Center in Anderson, MO. A memorial service was held July 24, at the Presbyterian Church of Belle Vista with Pastor James Still and Pastor Tracy Evans officiating. Martin was born March 23, 1921 on the family farm 9 miles south east of Kulm, N.D. to Gottlieb & Mary (Schlenker) Gruneich. He was a graduate of Kulm High School, Westmar College, LeMar, IA, and Evangelical Theological Seminary, Naperville, IL. It was while he was at Naperville that he met his future wife, Verda Bunse, from northwestern Missouri. She was a student at North Central College and working as the secretary of the church they both attended. He and Verda were married June 4, 1946. They served Evangelical United Brethren (UMC) and Presbyterian churches in North Dakota, South Dakota and Iowa, and he was designated Pastor Emeritus of the First Presbyterian Church, Montezuma. Martin was instrumental in organizing the Boy Scout Troop in Kindred, N.D., and was its first Scoutmaster. He was director and counselor for the Junior High Presbyterian Camps in South Dakota and Iowa and was affectionately known as "Mr. G." He served on the exploration committee to establish the Montezuma nursing home. Following his retirement from active ministry, he & Verda moved to Belle Vista, AR in 1986 from Newhall, IA. He was a member of the Presbytery of East Iowa, was the former Bentonville/Belle Vista Evening Lions Club Chaplin, an AARP Board member, and member of the Dakota Club. He was survived by his wife of 58 years, Verda Gruneich of Belle Vista, AR; his children -- two sons and two daughters; one brother, Solomon Gruneich, Sioux Falls, SD; two sisters, Ella Hildebrand, Naperville, IL, and Violet Trujillo, Chimayo, NM, 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. * * * Obit-bio complied from obituary published in Montezuma Republican paper, 8/4/2004, with additional information from family sources and personal memoirs by Margo Gruneich Erick.
