He attended a one-room country school and then high school in Kulm. He graduated from Jamestown College, Jamestown, ND in 1939 and in 1940 was ordained as a minister. On May 26, 1940 he married Esther Juliana Schindler in McClusky, ND. They both entered Evangelical (Garrett) Theological Seminary, Naperville, IL in 1942 where he received an M.Div. degree in 1945 and completed additional graduate work at the Univ. of Chicago. During the next 36 years they served Evangelical United Brethren parishes in North and South Dakota, and Presbyterian parishes in South Dakota and Minnesota. Sol received an honorary D.Div. degree from Huron College, Huron, SD in 1965. Following retirement in 1981, Sol and Esther returned to Sioux Falls, SD where he served as Stated Clerk of the Presbytery of SD for eight years. Solomon is survived his wife, Esther, daughter Marilyn (Tom), son Stanley (Lonnie), daughter Margaret (Jim), five grandchildren, two gt. grandchildren, and a sister Violet. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Ella (Eddie) Hildebrand and brother Martin (Verda) Gruneich. (Original bio written by daughter, Margo Gruneich Erick.)
