Description	:	Rev. Moses Bartlett (Bartlit on his memorial), born 8 Feb 1708/9 in that part of Guilford called East Guildford (now Madison), Connecticut. He died 27 Dec 1766 in Middletown (now Portland), Connecticut. He was a Yale College 1730 graduate. On 8 Jan 1734/5 in what later became Middlesex County, Connecticut, Moses married Lydia Fiske. Lydia's father was Rev. Phineas Fiske, with whom Moses had studied both theology and medicine. Lydia's father was Rev. Phineas Fiske, with whom Moses had studied both theology and medicine. Moses and Lydia's children were Lydia, Dr. Moses, Jemima, Elihu (died at 12 days), Dr. Elihu, Dr. Phinehas, Capt. Samuel, infant (died), Jerusha, Fiske, and Elisha. Sons Dr. Moses Bartlett and Dr. Elihu Bartlett had studied medicine with Dr. Benjamin Gale b. 1715 - d. 1790 and, like their father and grandfather Rev. Fiske, were graduates of Yale College--Moses in 1763 and Elihu in 1764. Rev. Moses' son, Dr. Moses, succeeded to his father's medical practice in Portland, surviving him for some forty years, and was a deacon in the church. Moses accepted an invitation to preach at the what was then called the Third Church of Middletown in 1732, and was ordained on 6 Jun 1733. He was pastor at the church until the day he died at age 58 on 27 Dec 1766. The church, now known as the First Congregational Church, Portland, Connecticut, was founded 25 Oct 1721 and various commemorative and other activities are currently being planned for the Church's tricentennial (300th anniversary!) in 2021.
