Description	:	Rev Nahum Brooks was born in East Wakefield, 06/16/1811 died in Manchester, NH 03/16/1883. Additional informtion provided by FAG member 46555353 obtained from the Free Baptist Cyclopedia, (published by Burgess and Ward) He was the second of seven children. He married Rebecca and they had two daughters, Emiline nee Brooks Balch and Mary. He was baptized in Aug. 1834 by Rev Samuel Burbank, and joined the church in Wakefield. He married Rebecca and they had two daughters, Emiline nee Brooks Balch and Mary. He was baptized in Aug. 1834 by Rev Samuel Burbank, and joined the church in Wakefield. He acquired a thorough academic education at North Parsonfield under the instruction of the Rev. Hosea Quinby, D.D. He was a favorite with his school companions. He afterward went to Dover, NH, and was employed in the "Morning Star" office. He began preaching in 1837. Through his efforts a church was organized at Laconia, NH, March 17, 1838, which began with 9 members. He was ordained the following May in 1838 in a session of the Q.M. During this pastorate of six years, he baptized 166 persons. A fine house of worship was built and dedicated Jan 6th, 1841. His next pastorate was at Great Falls, where he baptized 192 converts. In all his pastorates he baptized 653 persons before he contracted a severe cold in a meeting in Candia, which caused partial paralysis of the vocal cords, and in consequence, he was oblige to cease preaching. After his ordination, he attended every session of the NH Yearly Meeting, except four. He was deeply interested in the benevolent enterprises of the denomination and contributed generously to their support. For twenty years, he was an active member of the Foreign Mission Board and two years treasurer of the society. He was also one of the founders of the Maine State Seminary at Lewiston, ME (now Bates) He was of fine personal appearance and dignified and impressive in the pulpit. He quicky won the love and confidence of people by his kindly and cordial manner and held them by strong affection and faithful friendship. The last two years of his life he was a great sufferer from the disease that caused his death. The 1880 census show he and Rebecca lived in Manchester, NH.
