He was born in the Flat Rock Community of Pickens County and the last surviving member of the children of Matthew C. and Rebecca Cartee Owens. His family moved to Greenville while he was young where he attended Greenville City Schools and Furman University. Read More	The Greenville News Sunday June 17, 1984 pg. 24 Rev. Ocie Franklin Owens of 205 Range View Circle and former pastor of West Greenville Baptist Church passed away on Thursday. He was born in the Flat Rock Community of Pickens County and the last surviving member of the children of Matthew C. and Rebecca Cartee Owens. His family moved to Greenville while he was young where he attended Greenville City Schools and Furman University. The 40 years he was in the ministry he served in churches in Oconee, Pickens, Abbeville and Greenville Counties. Before his retirement he served as pastor of West Greenville Baptist Church for 19 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mollie Knecht Owens who died in 1980, one daughter, Mary Owens Thompson who died in 1952 and one son, Lewis William Owens who died in 1975. Among his survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Chester Holmes from Greenville, Mrs. Cleo Roper from Easley, Mrs. David Owings from North Augusta and four sons,Joe Preston Owens, Ansel Clifford Owens, Leonard Eugene Owens all from Greenville and David Franklin Owens from Winter Haven, Florida. In addition to his parents, wife and two children he was preceded in death by three sisters, Mrs. Minnie Matthews, Mrs. Hattie Griffith and Mrs. Clara Barnett and three brothers, Samuel David Owens, Robert A. Owens and Clifford Matthew Owens. Services will be held at West Greenville Baptist Church on Sunday at 2 p.m. followed by internment in Springwood Cemetery.
