Burial was in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Waverly. Huck, 92, a Waverly resident died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement community of natural causes. Roy was born June 1, 1908 near Storm Lake, Iowa, the son of Carl and Eleanor Harjes Huck. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith in June 28,1908, in St. John's Lutheran Church in Hanover, Iowa. Roy later confirmed on April 9, 1922, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Waverly. Roy's father, Carl died when Roy was nine months old. His mother remarried to Louis Braun and the family moved to Waverly 1912. Roy attended St. Paul's parochial school and graduated from the Waverly high school in 1927. He attended the University of Iowa and received BA in 1931. Roy then attended Wartburg Seminary in Dubuque, graduated with a BA in divinity. He excepted a call to Belmond, where he was ordained as the Lutheran Pastor. On Oct. 10, 1934 he was united marriage to Louise M. Guetzloff. The couple stayed at Belmond until 1949. The next eight years, he was Pastor at Ottumwa, Renwick and Corwith, Melvin and Sheffield. In 1957 the family moved to Warsaw, Wisconsin Louise died January 2,1964, and Roy accepted a position in Seymour, Wisconsin. In 1972, he retired and moved to Waverly. He first lived above his brother-in-law's hardware store, Niewohner Hardware on E. Bremer Ave. and later moved to Willow Run Apartments in 1981. In 1990, he moved to a duplex on seventh Avenue N.W. and lived there until becoming a resident of the Bartels home in 1993. Roy was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Waverly, was a past member of the Kiwanis Club in Seymour, Wisconsin and member of the Pastor's conference in Iowa and Wisconsin. Roy also served on the Northern Wisconsin social service committee for seven years, serving three years as chairman and was chairman of the Marathon County unit of the American Cancer Society for two years while living in Wisconsin. Upon returning to Waverly he was very busy with the activities of Wartburg College and has been a longtime member of the Wartburg booster club. Roy is survived by one son and his spouse, Michael and Christina Huck of Edina, Minnesota one daughter and her spouse Sighe and John Frank of Madison, Wisconsin and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his spouse, his parents, his step father, his sister, Esther Niewohner and two brothers, Werner Huck and one in infancy. Visitation was two hours before the service at the church on Saturday. Memorials may be directed to the church or the Bartels Lutheran retirement community. The Kaiser Corson funeral home, of Waverly is in charge of arrangements.
