Koehl, age 80, first member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church to be ordained to the priesthood, died about 6 A.M. on March 15, 1971, at Maria Joseph Home, 4950 Salem Avenue, Dayton, Ohio, where he had made his home since his retirement. He had been pastor of the St. Lawrence Church at Rhine when he retired two years ago. The Rev. Father Koehl was born in St. Marys on October 22, 1891, the son of Louis and Mary Ann Bolsinger Koehl. He was ordained to the priesthood on March 15, 1919. In June, 1969, he came to St. Marys to celebrate his Golden Jubilee in the priesthood at Holy Rosary where he celebrated his first solemn high mass. A reception was held in his honor that afternoon at the school hall. He was the last of his family. Preceding him in death were three brothers, Joseph, Ollie, and August, and four sisters, Mrs. Theresia Hoorman, Mrs. Agatha Danaher, Mrs. Catherine Hurm, and Mrs. Lena Marx. Surviving him are a number of nieces and nephews including five in the religious, Sister Mary Edna Koehl C.PP.S, Salem Heights, Rev. John Hoorman C.PP.S., Hosmer, South Dakota, Rev. Edward Oen, C.PP.S., Liberty, Missouri, Sister Rita Drexler, Dominican Order, Adrian, Michigan, and Sister Mary M. Hoorman, C.PP.S., California. Funeral services for the Rev. Fr. Koehl will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. A concelebrated mass will be offered with Archbishop Paul Leibold officiating. Funeral services by Yoder, Long, and Folk.
