Vernon Ardell Frick, 57, of 226 Morgan St., Troutman, died at 11:35 p.m. Sunday at N.C. Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem following a brief illness. He was born in Chapin, S.C. July 7, 1925, and was a son of the late J. Berley and Annie Mae Riddle Frick. He had been pastor of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Troutman since 1978. He graduated from Newberry College and Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary, and was ordained in 1953. He was also a member of the board of N.C. Lutheran Homes. His community activities included serving as member and past president of the Troutman Lions Club, and a retired Troutman Fire Department which presented him with a plaque for faithful service in 1982. His pastorates included Pisgah St. John's in Lexington, S.C., Nativity Lutheran in Spartanburg, S.C., Union Lutheran in Salisbury, Friedens Lutheran in Gibsonville. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. In June 2, 1946, he was married to Ethel Clamp Frick, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Miss Amy Frick of Newberry, S.C., Mrs. Ronald W. Wells of Kannapolis, and Mrs. Franklin F. Merrell of Salisbury; two sisters, Mrs. Virgil Koon of Manchester, Tenn., and Mrs. Norris Hallman of Chapin, S.C.; four brothers, J. Earl Frick, O. Darr Frick, and Larry Frick, all of Chapin, S.C., and J.D. Frick of Gilbert, S.C.; and four grandsons. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Troutman, with Bishop Michael C.D. McDaniel, Bishop of the N.C. Synod, Lutheran Church in America, and Rev. Aaron Lippard, District Dean of the Central District and pastor of Union Lutheran Church in Salisbury, officiating. Pallbearers will be Halbert Rimmer, Phillip Brown, Jay Wilhelm, W.D. Troutman Jr., Rev. Edgar Lindler, John Sockwell, White Mahafey and Bill Baldwin. Honorary pallbearers will be all Lutheran ministers attending. Burial will be in the Union Lutheran Church Cemetery in Salisbury. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the organ fund of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Troutman. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Nicholson Funeral Home.
