Rex Thomas Baird died suddenly at his home Wednesday evening. The Reverend A. V. Weigel will conduct the services with interment at Elmwood cemetery, Morning Sun. The Pierce funeral home at Morning Sun is in charge of the arrangements. The son of Thomas and Cora Congrove Baird, he was born at Newport, Iowa, September 3, 1914. He graduated from Morning Sun high school in 1933. In business in Morning Sun from 1935-38, he later became an electrician from 1939-42 and served in the European campaign in World War II in the Army from 1942-1945. For the past 15 years he operated the Capitol Café at Wapello. Preceding in death were two sisters and one brother. Baird leaves a daughter, Peggy Louise Baird of Muscatine; two brothers, Dwight of Aurora, Illinois, and Max of La Mesa, California; and eight sisters, Mesdames Dorothy Mover of Burlington; Mildred Pogemiller of Wapello, Hallie Matson of Eveleth, Minnesota, Freda Wilson, Opal Nichols, Myrtle Hamilton, Wilma Bryant and Jean Griffin, all of Morning Sun. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Baird was a member of the American Legion Post at Columbus Junction.
