M. griffin. The ceremony was performed at 4 o'clock in the presence of 55 relatives and friends, the single ring ceremony being used. Miss Eva Mae Butcher and Mr. Dean Corey were the attendants; Marcella Ann Marshall was ring bearer. Previous to the ceremony Hoyt Griffin sang "I Love You Truly." The "Bridal Chorus from Lohengrin" was played by Miss Darlene Bryant. The bride wore a blue velvety gown and carried pink rosebuds. The bridesmaid was dressed in rose-colored velvet, and her corsage was gardenias. Both groom and bride graduated from the local high school, the former with the class of 1938. Later the bride completed the course at the Burlington Beauty Academy. Both are fine young people with a large circle of friends. They will go to housekeeping soon in the northeast part of town. The out-of-town guests at the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. LK. B. Moore and daughter Joan of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Sheldon, Jr., John Sheldon and Mr. and Mrs. Maynard Griffin of Chicago; Miss Wilda Pogemiller of Moline, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Tatum and son Arlo of Burlington; Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Owens of Albia. _________________________________________________ OBITUARY The Hawk Eye, Burlington, Louisa County, Iowa, 2 Oct 2011 Marjorie Jean Griffin, 90, of Morning Sun died Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born May 23, 1921, in Newport, she was the daughter of Thomas and Cora May Congrove Baird. On Oct. 29, 1939, she married Max H. Griffin in Morning Sun. He died Dec. 2, 1989. Mrs. Griffin worked at Community Bank in Columbus Junction, where she retired as assistant vice president in 1987. She was a 1938 graduate of Morning Sun High School. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Morning Sun. Survivors include one son, Tom Griffin of Ames; two grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; 10 nieces and 11 nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one son, nine sisters and four brothers. The memorial service for Mrs. Griffin will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Morning Sun with the Rev. Tom Zeleny officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Morning Sun. Memorials have been established for Morning Sun Community Ambulance Service and Mellinger Memorial Library in Morning Sun.
