She was born December 28, 1919, in Norman, Nebraska, the daughter of Andrew and Blanche Emal Petersen. She graduated from Bloomington, Nebraska High School with the class of 1936. Goedeken, 95, of Oskaloosa, died Sunday, September 6, 2015, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. She was born December 28, 1919, in Norman, Nebraska, the daughter of Andrew and Blanche Emal Petersen. She graduated from Bloomington, Nebraska High School with the class of 1936. Reye earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the University of Nebraska in 1941. On May 28, 1945, Reye was united in marriage to Dr. Adolph E. Goedeken at Lincoln, Nebraska, he died April 11, 2003. Reye started her teaching career in Republican City, Nebraska, where she taught English, Business and Home Economics. She taught French and English for one year at Fayette High School. In 1963, they moved to Oskaloosa and Reye joined the staff at William Penn College, she retired from there in 1991. In retirement she worked as the office secretary at St. John's Lutheran Church in Oskaloosa. She was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Oskaloosa, Lutheran Brotherhood and L.W.M.L. She enjoyed reading and exercising. She jogged until she was 60 years old, on her 60th birthday she ran 5 miles. She continued to walk two or three times a day for the next several years. Her family includes her son and his wife, Edward Goedeken and Laura Beason of Ames; a grandson, Andrew Goedeken; and a granddaughter, Carolyn Goedeken; and a sister, Ruth Petersen of Franklin, Nebraska. In addition to her husband Adolf, she was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Christine Ehrenhard and Kiersel Petersen; and five brothers, Neale, Ross, George, Warren and Allen Petersen. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 9, 2015, at 11:30 a.m. in the St. John's Lutheran Church in Oskaloosa with Reverend Samuel Beltz officiating. As was her wish, her body will be cremated following the funeral ceremony, burial of the urn will be in the St. Paul's Lutheren Cemetery north of Republican City, Nebraska. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin Tuesday after 11 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5-7 Tuesday evening to greet friends and relatives.
