He was a native of Alton and raised inFerndale where he attended the old Grant Union Elementary School and FerndaleHigh School. Richard served in the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1958, returning toFerndale where he had been employed by Humboldt Creamery at Fernbridge for over38 years, retiring as a products delivery driver. He was a member of FerndaleParlor No. 93 NSGW, Kenneth Rasmussen Post No. 6353 of V.F.W., and pastvolunteer with the Ferndale Volunteer Fire Dept. on unit NO. 1, retiring as acaptain. He was a longtime active member of the Swiss Club of Beatrice Flat. Richard is survived by his wife of 43 years, Rose Marie of Ferndale. Three sons: Richard "Allen" Michel Jr. and his wife Crystal of Ferndale,Gregory Scott Michel and Elaine Grigsby of Fortuna, Clinton Ray Michel and wife Julie of Loleta, a daughter Marcia Jo Rueden and husband Jeff of Kimberly, Wisconsin.He was the brother of John Michel and his wife Charlotte and Phyllis Jean Perkins and her husband Bill all of Ferndale. Richard was the grandfather of Jason, Josh, Kayla Rueden, Candice, Scott, Kevin, Allison and Madeline Michel,Michael and Stuart Grigsby and Chris Hapten. Richard was the great grand father of Cory Johnson. He was the stepson of Van A. Smith of Ferndale and the nephew of Tony and Marguerite Martin of Fortuna, Emily Lema of Ferndale and Evelyn Giacomini of Fortuna. He was the brother-in-law of Roma Borders of Lewiston,Idaho, Gordon Fisher of Lakewood, New Jersey, Gary Fisher, Harold Fisher, Kathy Wolcott, Shirley Drake , Alice Nichols, Wanda Floyd, Kenneth Fisher and Clifford Fisher all of Eugene Oregon. He is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Richard was preceded in death by his parents Antone and Gertrude Michel and a brother Dirk Zwick. Family and Friends are invited to a Celebration of Life service from the Chapel of Citizens Mortuary in Ferndale on Thursday, May 30 th at 11 a.m. with Deacon Dan Lewandowski of Assumption Catholic Church, officiating. Family prefers memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Humboldt 2010 Myrtle Ave.- Eureka, CA 95503, the Ferndale Volunteer Fire Dept. - P. 0.
