Description	:	Oskaloosa Independent, 5 May 1955 OBITUARY--DECKER Richard Addison Decker was born in Oskaloosa on September 22, 1908, the fifth and youngest child of Charles E. Decker and Monica S. Decker. He attended school in Oskaloosa and graduated from Oskaloosa high school in 1926. In school he was active in extracurricular activities as well as in academics, being particularly interested in music. Upon graduation he attended Strickler's Business School in Topeka. Read More	Oskaloosa Independent, 5 May 1955 OBITUARY--DECKER Richard Addison Decker was born in Oskaloosa on September 22, 1908, the fifth and youngest child of Charles E. Decker and Monica S. Decker. He attended school in Oskaloosa and graduated from Oskaloosa high school in 1926. In school he was active in extracurricular activities as well as in academics, being particularly interested in music. Upon graduation he attended Strickler's Business School in Topeka. Thereafter he worked in Texas on the El Paso Post. From there he went to California where he managed a hotel for some time. In 1933 he returned to Kansas and entered the service of the State. He was serving as State Superintendent of Titles and Registrations when he entered the Army in 1942. During the war he served with the 9th Armoured Division and the European Theater Headquarters. He received the American Theater and European Theater campaign medals, also the Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal. In 1945 just prior to his departure from Europe at a ceremony in Paris, he was decorated by General Edwin C. McNeil with the Bronze Star medal for outstanding and highly meritorious service during time of war. He was a member of the American Legion, the Rotary Club, and an elder in the Presbyterian church here in Oskaloosa. He was particularly active and interested in the Mariner's Club of this church and sang in the choir. He was married to Mayetta Belle Evans on March 19, 1943. They have two children, Richard Addison, Jr., age 10, and Robert Allen, age 4. He is survived by his wife and two sons; his mother, Monica Decker; three sisters, Mrs. E. E. Fish, Mrs. Carl M. Molleston, Mrs. R. G. Henry; one brother, Charles L. Decker, and many relatives and friends. His love and devotion to family, his loyalty and consideration of friends, his honest belief in a job well done, his sincere Christian faith--these will live on in hearts of his family and friends.
