Richard Arlin Anderson, 89 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at Holdrege Memorial Homes in Holdrege. He was born on April 29, 1933, in Holdrege, the youngest of three children born to Alfred and Hazel (Davis) Anderson. Richard attended rural schools in Phelps County, and during high school, actively participated in football and track. He was a State Champion in the 440 and the mile relay, and held the school record at that time. Richard graduated from Holdrege High School with the class of 1951 and then began farming with his father. On March 24,1955, Richard was inducted into the United States Army at Omaha, Nebraska, and transferred to Fort Lewis, Washington, and he was stationed in Alaska. Prior to his induction, Richard purchased a camera, and this began his lifelong passion for photography. On March 18, 1957, Richard was honorably discharged and returned home to farm. On May 28, 1957, he was united in marriage to Ilene Allen at Holcomb Evangelical Free Church north of Holdrege, and to this union three children were born: Allen, Clark, and Jayne. The family lived in many different communities in Nebraska including: Holdrege, Lexington, Minden, and Osceola, where Richard was employed in the meat industry. Richard loved photography, capturing many special moments of his family and nature. He was also an avid gardener and found enjoyment in sharing his vegetables and photographs with family and friends. He also treasured the time spent with his family boating and fishing at Harlan County Lake and enjoyed traveling and attending his grandchildren's activities. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ilene in 2018; his parents: Alfred and Hazel Anderson and step-father, Ed Klecan; in-laws: Arthur and Ruth Allen and step father-in-law, Ralph Arnold; a brother, John A. Anderson; two brothers-in-law: Kenneth Allen and Graydon Allen; and one great-grandson, Kale Soneson. Richard leaves to celebrate his life; his three children: Allen Anderson and his wife, Gale of Holdrege; Clark Anderson and his wife, Kandis of Las Vegas, Nevada; and Jayne Anderson and her husband, Thomas Cotter of Las Vegas; six grandchildren: Jamie Rooks and her husband, LaRon; Abigail Soneson and her husband, Brent; Lindsay Sullivan and her husband, Dylan; and Blake Anderson, all of Holdrege; Maddelynn Anderson of Las Vegas; and Nick Cotter and his wife, Alison of Lakewood, Colorado; fourteen great-grandchildren: Gabrielle, Xavier, and Harper Rooks; Kaleb, Isaac, and Lexie Soneson; Kyler, Brody, Jaxson, and Elyn Sullivan; Wyatt Anderson; Broc Rivetti; and Moses and Josephine Cotter; one brother, David Anderson and his wife, Kay of Amherst, Nebraska; one sister-in-law, Dora Lee Carlson of Holdrege; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege is in charge of arrangements.
