Description	:	Son of Richard & Mary Cox; husband of Agnes Tripp Cox. He was shot during an altercation at the home of Joe Jones on Paris Mountain Road, by James P. McCarson; Sible Hartin was charged with assault and battery with intent to kill in the related stabbing of Mr. Cox during this altercation (she later married James P. McCarson). Trial was held for McCarson in December 1938; he cited self-defense for the shooting and was found not guilty of the murder charge. Richard Cox was a native of Greenville County and had recently begun operating a service station in Marietta. He was survived by his wife; a daughter, Marguerite Cox; his stepfather and mother, Mr. & Mrs. W.E. Taylor; two half-sisters, Miss Gladys Taylor and Miss Myrtle Taylor; two half-brothers, Paul Taylor and Ernest Taylor, and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Anna Cox of Greenville. Funeral services: Sunday, November 14, 1937, Thomas McAfee Funeral Home. Burial: Graceland Cemetery Pallbearers: James Cleveland, Luther Davis, Will Norris, Earl Green, Fred Stokes, and Vernon Kinsey. Honorary pallbearers: Dr. E.C. Stroud, Timmon Dickson, Fred Keisler, and Dave Hunter. As was still the custom of the day, her remains were returned to the family home for visitation until the time of the funeral. This was to the home of his stepfather, William Earnest & Mary Cox Taylor, 11 Sizemore St., American Spinning Co. community.
