He was born on September 4, 1924 in Boone, Iowa the son of Oscar Lantz and Elizabeth (Bring*) Lantz. Richard was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army Air Corps. Read More	*Richard C. Lantz, 89, passed away at the Boone County Hospital on Tuesday evening, December 3, 2013. He was born on September 4, 1924 in Boone, Iowa the son of Oscar Lantz and Elizabeth (Bring*) Lantz. Richard was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army Air Corps. On October 5, 1946, he married Sharon Lindmark at the First United Methodist Church in Boone. Richard graduated from Boone High School, where he was the State tennis doubles champion in 1942, and graduated in August of 1949 from the University of Northern Iowa. He taught and coached for 34 years in Ankeny, Iowa and Orange County, California. He loved his family and was an avid sports fan. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a member of the American Legion Arthur D. Lantz Post #56 for over 50 years. His parents and one brother, Arthur Lantz preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife Sharon of Boone; daughters Linda Rehnstrom and husband Al of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Jo Shumer and husband Loren of Anaheim, California and Lori Nystrom and husband Curt of Boone; 5 grandchildren Nick, Brian and Marci Nystrom, Jason Waldman, and Emily Baker; and 5 great-grandchildren. The family would like to express gratitude to the Madrid Home, Hospice of Central Iowa and the staff at the Boone County Hospital for their compassionate care. Following Richard's wishes, his body has been cremated with burial at the Linwood Park Cemetery.
