Richard is survived by his brother, David Crissinger of Arizona; sisters, Carol Crissinger Carlson and the Rev. Memorials may be made to the Boy Scouts of America. Richard was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on Dec. 13, 1951, to Richard D. Crissinger Sr. and Virginia Ellis Crissinger. He attended Cedar Rapids Public Schools and Northeast Missouri State. Richard enlisted in the U.S. Army and became an 82nd Airborne Ranger. He served 87 months in the Rapid Deployment Force. He was a jump master and the youngest platoon sergeant in that era. After his discharge, Richard graduated from the University of Iowa. He had a 25-year career with the Iowa Department of Corrections, retiring as a captain. Richard was honored by Governor Vilsack as an Iowa Leader of the Year in 2004. Richard's favorite avocation was the Boy Scouts of America. He earned Eagle Scout as a youth. As an adult, he was involved in Cub Scouting until invited by the Hawkeye Area Council in 1995 to help form a new Boy Scout troop as part of the national Urban Emphasis Division. He led Troop 82 for three years. In 1998, he was recognized with the Silver Beaver Award for distinguished service to youth.
