Born on November 21, 1942 to Maynard and Lillian (Anderson) Lind in Ogden. He graduated from Boone High School in the Class of 1961. He married Marjorie Eckhart on July 24, 1965 at Marion Street United Methodist Church in Boone. He attended American Institute of Business where he graduated with an accounting and business management degree in 1966. The couple lived in Boone until 1975, when they moved to Ames. As a young couple, Richard and Marjorie loved to travel around the United States, attended classic car shows, and Richard helped Marjorie collect cat figurines and memorabilia (which he kept around in Marjorie’s memory). The couple did not have children, but had three cats- Sammy, Kitty, and TC, who were like their kids. Richard enjoyed his life and retired early, he worked for Seimens Water Technology until his retirement in August of 2002. He was a lifelong member of Marion Street United Methodist Church in Boone. He also belonged to the Klassy Kar Club. Richard was an organized, giving man. He donated to the Iowa Barn Foundation and to the Friends Foundation through the Ames Public Library, where he also volunteered in his retirement years. He had a passion for round barns- which led to his travel to every Iowa county and every continental state to see barns and take photographs of them. Richard spent a lot of time restoring his 1963 Corvair and enjoyed showing it. Richard is survived by his sisters, Dianne Eppert of Boone and Lori (Arlen) Wildeman of Boone; sister-in-law, Ella Benshoff; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maynard and Lillian Lind; his wife, Marjorie on January 19, 2014; and brother-in-law, Dean Benshoff. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel and online condolences may left for Richard’s family at www.schroedermemorialchapel.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Marion Street United Methodist Church or the Ames Public Library.
