Description	:	LAUREL, MT: Richard Dean LaPrath was born March 14, 1936, in Gregory, S.D. Richard was the third oldest of eight children born to Hans and Frieda (Manke) LaPrath. The LaPrath family moved to Sandpoint, Idaho, for a short time then returned to South Dakota and began a farm south of Dallas. Richard enjoyed his time on the family farm, especially tending to the hogs. In later years, Richard went with his dad into the mountains around Ronan, where he helped his dad pan for gold. Richard was the third oldest of eight children born to Hans and Frieda (Manke) LaPrath. The LaPrath family moved to Sandpoint, Idaho, for a short time then returned to South Dakota and began a farm south of Dallas. Richard enjoyed his time on the family farm, especially tending to the hogs. In later years, Richard went with his dad into the mountains around Ronan, where he helped his dad pan for gold. In Montana, Richard loved fishing and listening to his dad play the fiddle and tell stories. Richard then spent several years in Laurel with his sister Virginia when his health began to fail. Richard enjoyed being a part of The Billings Activity Center. His last few years were spent at The Billings Health and Rehab. On Aug. 23, 2004, while in Deaconess Hospital, his battle with kidney failure peacefully ended. Richard is preceded in death by his parents, brother Herman and sister Mary. Richard is survived by one sister, Virginia Gordon of Laurel; four brothers, Hans, Bill, Tom and Fred of Dallas, S.D.; six nephews, Paul, Bob, Sam, Ben, Tom and James; four nieces, Chris, Marsha, Esther and Amy, and numerous cousins. Richard will be missed by those who cared for him, from his family to those who gave such great care to him at The Billings Health and Rehab, The Billings Activity Center and The Rocky Mountain Kidney Center. Cremation has taken place and services are pending in Gregory, S.D.
