Description	:	Richard "Dean" Shepperd was born July 2, 1939, to Dale and Ruby (Jamison) Shepperd in Keya Paha County, Nebraska and passed away on March 1, 2012, at the Cherry County Hospital in Valentine, Nebraska. Dean graduated from Keya Paha County High School in 1956. He spent the first 16 years growing up in Keya Paha County. When he was a bare-footed kid, he used to look at the dirt road going over those hills and across the river and wonder where the road went. Read More	Richard "Dean" Shepperd was born July 2, 1939, to Dale and Ruby (Jamison) Shepperd in Keya Paha County, Nebraska and passed away on March 1, 2012, at the Cherry County Hospital in Valentine, Nebraska. Dean graduated from Keya Paha County High School in 1956. He spent the first 16 years growing up in Keya Paha County. When he was a bare-footed kid, he used to look at the dirt road going over those hills and across the river and wonder where the road went. At about the age of 6, he figured it out--the road goes everywhere. Geography became his favorite subject in school. He grew up and worked with some of the last of the old cowboys. He pretty much felt like a cowboy out of his element when he first hit the big city. The day he graduated from Keya Paha County High School at 16 years of age, he left home with a 12-guage shotgun and a fishing pole. He has been over most of the highways and back roads in this country, a lot of roads in Mexico and a few in Canada. Dean was preceded in death by his parents Dale and Ruby Shepperd and his step-mother Mildred Shepperd, two brothers Don and John Shepperd, his son Lester Shepperd, and grandparents. Dean is survived by is four children, Linda (John) of Golden, Colorado, Weston (Lynn) of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, Eric of Rio Rancho, New Mexico and Julie (Paul) of Bastrop, Texas. He is survived by nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and a host of nephews and nieces. Two sisters, Shirley (Jerry) of Denver, Colorado and Sharon (Bill) of Springview, Nebraska and a sister-in-law Lenore Shepperd of Springview, Nebraska also survive him. Graveside services were held at the Spotted Tail Cemetery in Jamison, Nebraska. Music was provided by Dan Carson of Purdum, Nebraska.
