Mr. Current was born Oct.. 17, 1897, in Rowan County and was a son of the late Richard C. and Flora E. Current. He attended Woodleaf School and Mars Hill College. He was a retired engineer with the North Carolina State Highway Department where he served for 30 years as supervisor of the roadwork in Alexander County. A member of First Baptist Church in Taylorsville, he was also a Mason and a member of the Scotch-Irish Lodge 154 in Cleveland for more than 50 years. He was interested in the history of Alexander County and was instrumental in the organization of the Alexander County "Historical Association, which he served as treasurer. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lurline Clark Current; one son, Richard C. Current of North Wilkesboro; one daughter, Anna R. Current of Jupiter, Fla.; one sister, Miss Jeannette Current of Mt. Vernon; and three grandsons.
