He married Arlene Schoolman September 25, 1955, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Charlotte. Dick was a Charlotte fire fighter for 50 years, fire chief for 30 years and served on the Charlotte Fire Department Board for a number of years. He was a member of Clinton County Firemans Association, Clinton County Fire Chiefs Association, Wisconsin State Firemans Association, Honorary member of Camanche Fire Department, the Iowa Firemans Association. He helped organize the firefighters Memorial Wall in Coralville, Iowa. Dick received the Roger Mooty award from the Iowa Fire Chiefs Association.He helped organize Clinton County FEMA Disaster Drills, helped establish 911 systems for the county. Dick also helped establish street numbering system for the county and in 1984 received the Governors Award for meritorious service. He was past Charlotte City Council member and was involved in Charlotte CAAC. He was a founding member of Midwest Oliver Club and served on the board at Mount Pleasant Old Threshers. Dick was also a member of MOSTA (Midwest Old Settlers and Threshers Association) for 45 years.He was a truck driver for many years and later worked as a mechanic for Airco Industrial Gases, then he served as a service technician for Airco for 25 years, retiring from BOC Gasses in 1997. His life was dedicated to firefighting, to serve his own community and surrounding communities as well. Dick strived to always improve the safety and update the equipment for fellow firefighters, and was committed to the train ing process.Dick was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed sharing his passion of both firefighting and restoring antique tractors and attending tractor shows with his children and grandchildren.He had just finished restoring his fathers 1929 Case tractor this summer to be shown at Mount Pleasant Old Threshers Reunion.
