Description	:	Richard ‘Dick’ Elmer Mudd, 92 Passed away peacefully on Friday, Sept. 25,2020while in hospice care. He was born in Stockton to Elsie and Elmer Mudd on Jan. 14, 1928. Shortly after, he relocated with his parents to the fifth generation Mudd Ranch west of Willows, where he lived his entire life. Read More	Richard ‘Dick’ Elmer Mudd, 92 Passed away peacefully on Friday, Sept. 25,2020while in hospice care. He was born in Stockton to Elsie and Elmer Mudd on Jan. 14, 1928. Shortly after, he relocated with his parents to the fifth generation Mudd Ranch west of Willows, where he lived his entire life. He had a younger sister Barbara and brother Jim who lived on the ranch until they moved later in their adult years. Dick Mudd was enlisted in the Army and went to Korea in 1952, where he served for about 18 months as a helicopter mechanic at a MASH hospital. In 1954, he married Reita Stout and became a partner in the family ranch, raising barley and sheep with a heard of about 500 breeding ewes. In the mid-1960s, he took over the ranch operations and expanded his farming by renting nearby land and raising about 1,800 acres of barley annually. He was very active in the sheep industry, serving as a board member and president of the local wool growers association. He also served as President of the California Wool Growers Association from 1980-82. In addition to this, he also served on the American Sheep Producers Board, where he traveled to Washington, D.C., several times to address predator, labor and drought issues facing growers. He hosted many college field trips at the ranch, as well as several sheep day spring barbecues with hundreds attending from around the area. He served as a Glenn County Supervisor for 12 years and was the driving force to improve the local economy, which included Thunderhill Raceway coming to the county with the first phase completed in 1993. He leaves behind his wife of 66 years, Reita Mudd; son Ray Mudd and daughter Gisele Macy. A private Family Only graveside service is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct.8,at the Willows Cemetery. A celebration of life will be planned in the near future.
