Description	:	Richard Eugene Baber and his entire family were killed in a two-car collision on the Bluegrass Road, Route 2, Wapello County, Iowa, on Sunday evening, January 14, 1968, in what was the worse traffic accident ever recorded in Wapello County history. The family lived on the road near the High Point School, and they were headed home at the time of the accident. Drifting snow was attributed by authorities as being responsible for the tragedy. Richard died at the Ottumwa Hospital about an hour after the accident. The other driver Terry Lee Chidester was also killed in the accident. Richard was the son of Lloyd and Mary Ann (Canny) Baber. He was survived by his mother, Mrs. Mary Ann Longcor, of Ottumwa Route 2; one sister, Mrs. Donna Hall, of Savannah, Mo.; a half-brother, Robert McNabb of Ottumwa; and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. E.L. Canny of Eldon. He was preceded in death by his father in 1966. The funeral for all seven members of the family was held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Chapel, in charge of Rev. Cecil Simonton, pastor of Davis Street Christian Church. Military services for Mr. Baber were in charge of the local American Legion post. Members of the Legion served as pallbearers. Also serving as pallbearers were Don Spurgeon, Glen Sipes, Jess Parcel, Kenneth and William Barker, and Dale Stevens. According to Richard's death record at the Wapello County Court House, he served in the armed forces from January 22, 1952 - December 19, 1953. The informant on all of the death records for Richard and his family was his mother, Mary Ann Longcor.
