Burial in Ivy Hill Cemetery in Malcom. Richard was born on June 7, 1936, in Malcom, the son of Allen Frank and Velma Margaret Bauman Kies. He was raised in the Malcom area and was a 1956 graduate of Malcom High School. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. On April 10, 1965, he married Beverly Pease, at the Malcom United Methodist Church. The couple made their home in Grinnell where they raised their two children. He was employed at the Donaldson Company in Grinnell for 35 years and retired in 1998. Richard was a member of the Malcom United Methodist Church, Malcom American Legion, and the Air Force 307th Bomb Wing Association. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially trout fishing in the Branson, Missouri area. He held a passion for antiques and he collected many things, including eagles, mustache cups, and coins. He enjoyed family vacations, playing cards, and playing board games with his grandchildren. He loved maps, western movies, going to casinos, trains, dancing, and old country music. Survivors include his wife, Beverly of Grinnell; two children, Susan (Mark Uhlrig) Kies of Topeka, Kansas and Doug (Desia) Kies of Grinnell; four grandchildren, Taylor (Jessica) Gant of Olympia, Washington, Amber Gant of Kellogg, and Dalton and Kiana Kies of Grinnell; one great-grandchild; and two step-great-grandchildren, Fenix and Abby.
