Funeral services were conducted Saturday at the Nevenhoven Funeral Home in Brooklyn, with the Rev. Paul C. Hart of Ottumwa officiating. Burial was in Ivy Hill Cemetery, Malcom. Masonic rites were conducted by Lily Lodge No. 254 of Malcom, and the flag presentation was by members of Francis Gallagher American Legion Post No. 294. A memorial fund has been established... The son of Allen F. and Velma Margaret Bauman Kies, he was born Nov. 6, 1929, in Parkston, S.D. He received his education in Malcom and Hartwick. He was a graduate of Western Illinois State College, receiving his B.A. degree in business education. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Mr. Kies was married to Patricia Yount July 29, 1953, in Kirksville, Mo. After living in the Malcom and Brooklyn areas, they moved to Hollister, Mo., and to rural Clinton, Mo., where Mr. Kies was a co-owner of Kies Country Corner mart. He was a member of the Presbyterian church of Brooklyn; Lily Lodge No. 254, AF & AM, Malcom; and the Branson-Hollister American Legion Post in Missouri. Survivors include his wife, Pat; one son, Steven of rural Clinton; three daughters, Connie Lugenbell of Branson, Mo., Cindy Holcomb of Cleveland, Tenn., and Cathy Bennett of Bellevue, Neb.; his mother, Velma Kies of Malcom; two brothers, Richard of Grinnell and James of Topeka, Kan.; and six grandsons.
