LINVILLE Services for Richard Linville were held Sunday, Nov. 20, 2005 at 2 p.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. Interment was in the Confidence Cemetery. Richard Ford Linville was born June 14, 1923 in Lucas County to Homer DeWitt and Mabel Elma (Davis) Linville. He was 82 and perished in a tragic house fire Nov. 16, 2005, along with grandson, Christopher Stone. His entire life was lived south of Russell, first on his family's farm on the bluff of the Chariton River and then on his own farm nearby. He attended country school for his early education at Liberty No.4 (Baker) school. He and his sisters had a pony, Cricket, and a cart that they drove to school. Richard attended high school in Russell, graduating in 1941. He married Marie Elizabeth Scheitel on Aug. 7, 1955 in Milroy, Minn. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in August. Marie passed away Sept. 20, 2005. Richard farmed most of his life raising crops, cattle and hogs. He enjoyed the outdoors and spent many years trapping and hunting the areas surrounding the Chariton River. He loved the timberland, plants and wildflowers growing there and also gathering hickory nuts and walnuts. He liked music and played the trumpet in school as well as in the Russell town band for many years. He also played the Harmonica and he spent many evenings during the past few years playing it at music jams held at various small towns in the area. He enjoyed family history and meeting his distant relations. He and Marie attended Linville family reunions in Pennsylvania and North Carolina. Left to honor his memory include sons, Bruce Linville, Ottumwa and Dennis Linville, Chariton, daughters, Marceline (Dennis) Slack, Mediapolis and Rhonda (Mark) White, Chariton, grandchildren, Kenny Stone, Sarah Slack, Corey Slack, Casey Slack, Brian White, Andrea White, Holly Maldonado, David Linville, Aaron Linville, Jeremy Linville and Kitt Linville, five great-grandchildren. He also leaves sisters, Louise (Don) Blackford, Cambria, and Mamie (Lee) George, Corydon, brother-in-law, Marvin (Hazel) Scheitel, Rochester, Minn., sister-in-law, Eunice Hadel, Blaine, Minn., and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Marie, sister, Dorothy Collins and brother, Larry Linville.
