Description	:	Richard "Dick" Henry Bennett was born at Gregory Landing, Clark County, Missouri to John Baptiste Bennett and third wife, Lucinda Kephart, both of Kentucky. Among at least 18 children born to John Baptiste Bennett, Richard joined elder brother William Porter Bennett in Siskiyou County California by 1880. At least four other brothers went West: George Washington Bennett to Lassen County, California; Charles Kaphart Bennett to Butte County; California; John Thomas Bennett to Portland, Oregon; and Francis Marion Bennett to the Willamette Valley, Oregon. At least four other brothers went West: George Washington Bennett to Lassen County, California; Charles Kaphart Bennett to Butte County; California; John Thomas Bennett to Portland, Oregon; and Francis Marion Bennett to the Willamette Valley, Oregon. A sister, Nancy O. Bennett married William F. Hodges and they moved to Silverton, Oregon. Richard worked as a miner off and on in Siskiyou County where he met and married, Karuk native Julia Lydia Horn (daughter of a Vermont miner, Jacob Edwin Horn and Karuk native, Martha Boyd (also referred to as Martha Lack)). The couple had five daughters* and one son: Lulu M. Bennett (1892-1909) Sarah "Sadie" Elizabeth Bennett-Hale (1894-1984) Gifford A. Bennett (Mrs. Clarence Burr) (1897-1971) Martha Augusta Bennett (1899-1919) Paul Jasper Bennett (1905-1967) Mary Madeline Bennett* (Mrs. John Herbert Pevey)(1912-1991) (Madeline was listed as a granddaughter in the 1920 Census, but listed as a daughter in his obituary). The family lived at Liberty Township in Siskiyou County, but by 1910-1920 had moved to Klamath (now in Del Norte County). And by 1930 Richard and Julia were living in Eureka. After giving up mining, Richard became a minister at the Trinity Full Gospel Mission on Second street, Eureka for 20 years. He died at his home in Cutten (on the southeastern outskirts of Eureka, California).
