Bennett Dies After Much Suffering. After suffering from a serious illness for several months, Charles Kaphart Bennett, sixty years old, died yesterday at his temporary residence, 443 Wall street. He had resided in Chico for thirteen years, and had reared a large family, the members of which are well known in Chico. For a number of years he was an employee of The Diamond Match Company. Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock tomorrow afternoon at the Engel chapel, Rev. W.M. McCart, pastor of the Baptist church, of which deceased was a member, officiating. Interment will be made in Chico cemetery. The Odd Fellows, of which Bennett was a well known member, will conduct the services at the grave. Bennett was born October 11, 1856, at Gregory Landing, Missouri. He came to California in his early manhood and was first employed by a brother in Siskiyou county. He was married May 2, 1883, to Louisa Finley. To this union, eleven children were born, of whom ten are living. He came to Chico thirteen years ago, and was employed most of the period since by The Diamond Match Company. In March, 1916, he went to Klamath Falls, where he was stricken ill. He returned to Chico in November and went to Sacramento later for medical aid. He returned to Chico a week ago. He was always known as a man of honor, and was an active member of the Baptist church. He also was a member of the Odd Fellows in Etna Mills and of the canton in Chico. Surviving are his widow; four brothers, R.H. Bennett of Willow Creek, Humboldt county; Jasper Bennett of Klamath Falls; Marion Bennett of Willamette, Ore., and John Bennett of Skypoose, Ore., and the following children: Mrs. Lucinda Chester of Corning, Mrs. Hattie Russell of Chico, Mrs. Lee Green of Sacramento, Misses Edith and Marjorie Bennett of Chico, W.F. Bennett of Yreka, G.C. Bennett of Sacramento, J.O. Bennett of Blairsden, J.S.L. Bennett of Chico and L.C. Bennett, who died at his home at Fifth and Wall streets Wednesday, was held yesterday afternoon from the family home, Rev. W.M. McCart officiating. The services at the grave were conducted by the Odd Fellows, of which Bennett was a member. The pall bearers were G.C. Bennett, W.F. Bennett, J.O. Bennett, J.S.L. Bennett, J.F. Chester and B.L. Russell.
