Mr. Ross served as attorney for Re-1 Valley School District Board of Education since 1971 and was appointed Logan County Attorncy in 1993, succeeding the late Roger Nixt. He a held the office of Torrens Examiner of Titles of Logan County fro 1967-1994. Richard Houston Ross was born July 19, 1929 in Sterling, the son of Edith Marie George Ross and the late Leslie H. Ross. He graduated from Peetz High School and continued his higher education at the University of Colorado. In 1954 Mr. Ross earned a bachelor's degree in Economics; received his law degree (Juris Doctorate) and was admitted to the Colorado Bar. He married Marilyn J. Munson,Sept. 11, 1954, in Palo Alto, Calif. Mr. Ross entered the U.S. Army at Fort Carson, March 3, 1955 and served on the Judge Advocate staff at Fort Lewis, Wash., until being discharged March 2, 1957. He launched his Sterling law practice in 1957 with Baxter Arnold, who later became Logan County Judge. Jim Leh joined the practice in 1965 and the firm was Arnold, Ross and Leh. Leh was appointed District Judge in January 1978. The law frim became Arnold, Ross and Singer in the 1980s with the addition of Mike Singer. Mr. Ross sought relief from his busy law schedule by pursuing one of his major loves - the outdoors and mountains - that blended with his love of hunting, fishing, back packing and skiing. Mr. Ross was member and Elder of the First Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Logan County Bar Association, the 13th Judicial District of Colorado Bar Association (serving as president 1980-81), the Colorado Bar Association, the American Bar Association and Phi Psi Fraternity at the University of Colorado. He also participated in a variety of community organizational projects and activities. Mr. Ross is survived his wife, Marilyn J.. Ross of Sterling; three sons, John Carl Ross of Houston, Texas, James Edward Ross of Longmont and Jeffrey Neil Ross of Denver; his mother, Edith M. Ross of Peetz; three sisters, Mary Jo Ruhter of Cheyenne, Wyo., Millie Westphalen of Englewood, and Jane Aikin of Las Vegas, Nev.; two brothers, David Ross of Peetz and Claude Ross of Loveland; and a grandson. He was preceded in death by infant son, Thomas. The family requests memorial contributions be given to the Richard H. Ross Community Fund to be used for the benefit of the community in care of Norwest Bank, Sterling.
