Description	:	Richard Schaf, age 94, of Shelby passed away Monday May 30 at his home in Shelby. Funeral services will be Thursday June 2 at Shelby Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shelby. Interment will be in Shelby Cemetery (Sacred Heart) with military rites by Shelby American Legion Post 296. Dubas Funeral Home of Osceola and Stromsburg is in charge of arrangements. Richard served in the US Army Anti-Aircraft Battery A546/PFC for three years. Upon returning home, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth "Betty" Jane Bonne on June 14, 1949 in David City. To this union four children were born, two sons and two daughters. The family lived and farmed south of Shelby, and he worked at the Rising City lumber yard for many years. In 1991 they retired from farming and moved into Shelby. Richard continued to live in Shelby until his passing. He enjoyed woodworking. He was a member of Shelby Sacred Heart Catholic Church, American Legion Post 296 and the VFW. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty, parents, brother Edward Jr. and sister-in-law Eilean.
