There will be a 7 p.m. rosary Friday at the church. Mr. Schaf was born June 14, 1919, at Rising City to Edward J. and Sophie (Alt) Schaf. He served in the Army Air Corps in World War II, where he was a sergeant. His decorations and citations were the American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal. He also received his high school diploma through the Veterans Administration. He married Eileen (Nauenbug) Kubicek on Feb. 12, 1966, at Shelby. He was a farmer near Rising City for many years. He retired in 1983 and moved to Shelby. He was a member of the church, The American Legion Post 296, where he held the office of Adjutant for many years. He was also a member of the Shelby Senior Center until his health began to fail. He enjoyed attending daily mass, playing cards and dancing. Survivors include his wife of Shelby; two brothers, Richard Schaf of Shelby and Bernard (Berty) Schaf of Columbus; two step grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his stepson, David Kubicek in 1990; his parents, and his sister-in-law, Betty Schaf.
